Enlistment gives six places and four verbs. Pilot goes with combat ships. Fight goes with on foot. Explore is shared by capital ships, space stations, and frontier outposts. Serve goes with the crew. Each pair stays intact so you can see where the front line is. The year is 2945. You play in first person as one recruit of the UEE Navy, in humanity's war against the Vanduul.
Combat ships and foot combat
Pilot is the verb paired with combat ships. The enlistment leads with the cockpit and then adds the ground fight. Ship names, loadouts, and a control map have not been announced.
Fight on foot is the second place. It is a separate activity from piloting, not a footnote under the cockpit. Squadron 42 is not only a flight sim: the enlistment names both the ships and the ground fight.
Both lines sit inside a single-player story. Squadron 42 is for one player. It does not describe co-op or a second local player. Plan the front line as one recruit's work. The genres under that recruit are Action, Adventure, and Simulation.

Capital ships, stations, and outposts
Explore is used three times. The places are capital ships, space stations, and frontier outposts. Treat them as three locations, not one backdrop. A capital ship is not the same stop as a frontier outpost, and a space station stands on its own. You move through them while the United Empire of Earth stands on the brink of collapse.
No map, system name, or travel time has been announced for those three places. Explore is the verb, and each place is written out beside it.
Frontier outposts are easy to skip because they come last in the explore list. They are still a named place. If your question is whether the front line is only a capital-ship interior, the enlistment includes the outposts and the stations as well.

Alongside the crew
Serve alongside your crew is the last pair. You live and work with the crew while the war is underway. Threats, both human and alien, come out of the darkest reaches of space. Individual crew members, ranks, and a roster have not been announced. No cast names have been announced. The story is still billed as an all-star cast.
Serving alongside a crew is part of the story you play alone. It is not a shared session. The Oath, the wishlist trailer, was uploaded on 10 October 2026 if you want the film before you decide.
Windows is the only supported system. The launch window is Q2 2027. The minimum PC is Windows 11, 16 GB of RAM, and 150 GB of space. The six places are the work. The PC row is the machine that work needs. Check both before you wishlist.
